AMD and Intel Unveil New Processors at Computex Taipei 2024

TapTechNews, June 5. At this week's 2024 Computex Taipei, both AMD and Intel have released brand-new processor product lines. Among them, in addition to explaining the reason for cutting the hyper-threading technology, Intel also demonstrated its way to optimize Windows performance through the Thread Director technology.

On the other hand, AMD released its brand-new Zen5 architecture and desktop and mobile processor product lines based on this architecture. The desktop part is the brand-new Ryzen 9000 series, and the mobile part is the processor named Ryzen AI 300 series (code-named StrixPoint).

TapTechNews noticed that when AMD was promoting its products, it emphasized the 16% IPC performance improvement of the Zen5 architecture and the huge leap in AI performance of up to 50 TOPS in the NPU part. However, the Ryzen AI 300 series has a drawback that is seldom mentioned by the media, that is, it will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system.

Last month, there was a rumor that the next-generation Ryzen processor would stop supporting Win10. At that time, the source of this news was an executive who was said to be from Lenovo's China region, and the credibility was questionable. But at this Computex Taipei, AMD officially confirmed this news. The two SKU models of the Ryzen AI 300 series, HX370 and 365, did not list Windows 10 in the list of supported operating systems in their official specification sheets:

Supported operating systems:

Windows 11 - 64-bit version

RHEL x86 64-bit version

Ubuntu x86 64-bit version

In contrast, the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor still supports the Windows 10 system:

Supported operating systems:

Windows 11 - 64-bit version

Windows 10 - 64-bit version

RHEL x86 64-bit version

Ubuntu x86 64-bit version

This means that although the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor is compatible with the Windows 10 system, the brand-new Ryzen AI 300 series mobile processor will not be able to use the chipset driver provided by AMD for the Windows 10.
