Google Chrome 127 Version uBlockOrigin Extension to End Support, Alternatives and Future

TapTechNews August 3rd news, the chief developer and maintainer Raymond Hill posted on GitHub yesterday, stating that since version 127 of Google Chrome browser, uBlockOrigin (uBO) extension will pop up a reminder that 'this extension is about to end support'.

Reason

TapTechNews note: Google has deprecated Manifest v2 in the new version of Chrome browser and switched to supporting Manifest v3.

And the uBO extension is currently written based on Manifest v2 and has not yet launched the Manifest v3 version, so Chrome browser will recommend using other extensions to replace uBO:

Alternative Solution

uBlockOriginLite (uBOL) is a lite version of uBO, which tries to convert the filter list used by uBO into a method that complies with the Manifest v3 standard. Just like the situation since its first release in June 2014, it focuses on reliability and efficiency.

However, it should be noted that in the Manifest v3 environment, due to the focus on reliability and efficiency, it means that functions must be sacrificed and many functions cannot be achieved.

Future Development

The Manifest v2 uBO will not be automatically replaced by the Manifest v3 uBOL. uBOL is too different from uBO and cannot replace uBO in the short term, and users can also explicitly choose which extension to replace uBO according to their own will.
