GAC Aion V Electric SUV Passes Approval, Set for Official Launch in July

TapTechNews, May 11 - The all-new GAC Aion V electric SUV has received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The new vehicle is scheduled to officially launch in July, further details can be found in previous reports on TapTechNews.

In terms of dimensions, the new vehicle measures 4605/1854(1876)/1660(1686) mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2775 mm. The curb weights are listed as 1860/1920/1780/1840 kg.

The new SUV is based on the AEP electric platform and features a new design approach. It sports a closed front grille and vertical vents at the sides. At the rear, it features a roof spoiler, a two-tier design for the trunk and rear bumper, and a unifying black decorative strip.

Official sources state that the second-generation Aion V is equipped with an Orin-x chip, high-channel LIDAR, 5 mm-wave radars, and 11 vision cameras, enabling advanced driver-assistance functions independent of high-precision maps.

In terms of power, the new vehicle is equipped with Ruipeng 150/165kW electric motors and features new-generation LiFePO4 batteries provided by YinPai/Mid-creation New Voyage. Additionally, it adopts a new silicon carbide chip that achieves a 99.85% control efficiency and enhances motor power to 10.5 kW/kg, reducing vehicle power consumption by 15%. The SUV claims a range of up to 750 km (approx. 466 miles), with a fast charge capability that allows for 370 km (approx. 230 miles) of range to be added in 15 minutes.
