Nissan Closes Changzhou Passenger Car Factory

TapTechNews June 23rd news, according to the report of 'Nikkei Shimbun', Nissan Motor has announced the official closure of its passenger car factory located in Changzhou, Jiangsu.

Nissan Motor spokesperson said that the factory jointly operated by Nissan Motor and its partner in Changzhou - Dongfeng Motor has stopped production. This factory mainly produces the QASHQAI SUV, with an annual output of approximately 130,000 vehicles. Nissan's total production in China is 1.6 million vehicles, and the Changzhou factory accounts for 8% of its production.

According to public information, in 2018 Nissan signed an agreement with the Changzhou municipal government to restructure the Changzhou base, and then Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. Changzhou Branch was established and started production in 2020. Dongfeng Nissan's Changzhou factory mainly produces the QASHQAI model. On November 18, 2020, the first vehicle was officially off the production line in this factory. However, in less than 4 years, Nissan's latest factory in China has announced its closure.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, on June 7, Nissan Motor Company announced its May 2024 performance in the Chinese region. Nissan's sales in the Chinese region, including both the passenger car and light commercial vehicle business segments, were 64,233 units in May, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%.

In May 2024, the sales of Dongfeng Nissan (TapTechNews note: including Nissan, Venucia and Infiniti brands) was 61,725 units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%. The sales of the light commercial vehicle business segment (Zhengzhou Nissan) was 2,508 units, a year-on-year decrease of 23.1%.

From January to May 2024, Nissan's cumulative sales in the Chinese region, including both the passenger car and light commercial vehicle business segments, were 286,445 units, a year-on-year decrease of 1%.
