TapTechNews noticed that iOS 18 is currently being tested for members of the Apple Developer Program, and the public beta version will be launched in July. It is expected that this update will be released on a large scale in September.

Improved FaceTime call quality

Apple said that when the network condition is good, FaceTime on iOS 18 will use more data in low-power mode to improve the video call quality.

Enhanced Siri sound quality

According to Apple, iOS 18 includes a new setting that can significantly improve the sound quality of Siri in Bluetooth car devices without CarPlay. This new function can be found in the Settings app under Siri → Siri Responses → Respond through media source. The setting description reads, Siri will respond through the A2DP car stereo system, which is ideal when playing media on the phone.

Wallet app security upgrade

The update shows that when users add credentials in the Wallet app on the iPhone, they may now be required to take a LivePhoto as an additional verification method to replace or complement a series of head and facial movement detections. Apple said that the device will assess the LivePhoto to ensure that the person adding the credentials is real and valid.

Apple first announced the function of adding driver's licenses or ID cards to the Wallet app in 2021, but so far only four US states (Arizona, Maryland, Colorado and Georgia) have launched this function. This function provides a convenient contactless way to present identification or age proof at selected airports, enterprises and places.
