TrendForce Report on Future Memory Trends in Notebooks

TapTechNews on June 26, TrendForce, a consulting firm, released a report which mentioned that the average memory of notebook computers in 2024 will be 11.8 GB, an increase of 12% year-on-year compared to 10.5 GB in 2023.

By 2025, as AI applications improve, can handle complex tasks, provide better user experiences and enhance productivity, it will drive the rapid growth of consumers' demand for more intelligent and efficient terminal devices.

TrendForce estimates that the penetration rate of AI notebook computers will rapidly increase to 20.4%. Since all AI PCs are equipped with 16 GB or more memory, it will at least drive the overall average memory capacity to increase by 0.8 GB, an increase of at least 7% year-on-year.

According to a previous report by TapTechNews, Gao Yu, the general manager of Intel's China Technology Department, said at the 2024 China Flash Memory Market Summit that in the future, the entry-level standard of AI PCs must be 32 GB of memory, and the current 16 GB of memory will definitely be phased out.

In addition to driving the increase in the average installed memory capacity, AI notebook computers will also drive the demand for power-saving and high-frequency memory. In this case, compared to DDR, LPDDR can better show its advantages, thus accelerating the trend of LPDDR replacing DDR.
