Google to Launch Update for Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro with Automatic Material Detection Feature
TapTechNews September 27th news, the tech media AndroidAuthority released a blog post yesterday (September 26th), reporting that Google is brewing to launch an update for the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro phones, which can automatically identify the material of the object when using the sensor to measure the temperature of the object.
Temperature Sensor
The major highlight of the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro is the temperature sensor on the back of the device. This unique non-contact sensor allows users to measure the temperature of an object simply by using their phones.
To obtain the reading of the sensor, users need to open the pre-installed PixelThermometer application, select the type of material to be scanned, place the phone about two inches away from the object, and then click the Taptomeasure button.
Automatic Detection of Materials

Judging from the string description, the PixelThermometer application can automatically detect the material and measure the problem on the surface of the object. Of course, users can also manually choose the material to be scanned.
The application will use the tflite model to automatically detect the material. The previous update of the PixelThermometer application added a new user interface using the camera viewfinder. Therefore, it is possible that the application combines the use of the camera viewfinder and the material detection model to automatically detect what you are scanning.
