Elon Musk's Neuralink to Implant in 8 More Patients This Year, Advances in Brain-Computer Interface

TapTechNews August 5th news, the founder of the brain-computer interface company Neuralink, Elon Musk, mentioned a new goal in the podcast program last Friday: As part of the clinical trial, Neuralink is expected to provide implants for another 8 patients this year, enabling the company to complete a total of 10 brain-computer interface patient implantation surgeries.

In the podcast program with LexFridman on Friday, Musk disclosed that Neuralink has successfully implanted the second brain-computer interface chip into a human patient. This is another major progress after the first patient implantation in January this year. Musk mentioned that the second implant is currently progressing smoothly, and Musk said: I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it seems to have gone extremely well with the second implant. So there's a lot of signal, a lot of electrodes. It's working very well. (I don't want to jinx it, but it seems to have gone extremely well with the second implant. So there's a lot of signal, a lot of electrodes. It's working very well)

According to TapTechNews' previous report, after obtaining FDA approval in May last year, Neuralink first implanted the brain-computer interface chip into the patient Noland Arbaugh in January this year. After implantation, Arbaugh was able to control the computer mouse only with the mind, no longer relying on the mouth and stylus.

In May this year, Neuralink obtained FDA approval to install implants for the second patient. Musk said last month that it is expected that by 2026, more than 1000 people will have Neuralink chips implanted.

Neuralink can allow patients to control the robot's limb with the brain, which is faster than the natural brain-limb connection. Musk also said that the ultimate goal of Neuralink is to mitigate the civilizational risks posed by AI by establishing a symbiotic relationship between humans and digital intelligence.
