US Court of Appeals Sets Fast-Track Schedule for TikTok Law Challenge

TapTechNews May 29th news, according to Reuters, the US Court of Appeals on Tuesday set a fast-track schedule to consider the challenges faced by a new law. The law requires ByteDance to divest TikTok's US assets by January 19 next year or face a ban.

At the request of TikTok, ByteDance, and a group of TikTok content creators, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia will hold oral arguments in the case in September.

On May 14th, a group of TikTok creators filed a lawsuit to block the law that could prevent 170 million Americans from using TikTok, claiming that the law 'has a profound impact on the lives of Americans' after TikTok and parent company ByteDance filed a similar lawsuit.

According to the schedule of the appellate court, the creators, TikTok, and ByteDance must submit legal briefs by June 20th, submit legal briefs to the Department of Justice by July 26th, and submit reply briefs by August 15th.

TikTok says that through the fast schedule, it believes it can address the legal challenge without having to request emergency preliminary injunctive relief.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, this law was signed by the US president on April 24th, stipulating that ByteDance must sell TikTok by January 19 next year or face a ban. TikTok, on the other hand, claims the bill is unconstitutional and says it will file legal challenges against such laws.
