Qualcomm Snapdragon XElite Chip Powers Laptops, Game Performance Highlighted

TapTechNews on May 23rd reports that the Qualcomm Snapdragon XElite chip is now powering a large number of laptops, including Microsoft's latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop series. To encourage developers to adapt their apps to this platform, Qualcomm has followed Apple's lead and launched the Snapdragon Developer Kit.

The good news is that developers don't seem to need to invest too much effort in game porting. According to WindowsCentral, Microsoft revealed at Build 2024 that the well-known role-playing game Baldur's Gate 3 can run smoothly at 30 FPS on the Snapdragon XElite chip. It's worth noting that TapTechNews' report in March this year also mentioned that Baldur's Gate 3 can run at 30 FPS on this chip, but at that time the game resolution was 1080p and the graphics settings were at the lowest quality.

In addition, Microsoft also demonstrated that Borderlands 3 can also achieve smooth 30 FPS running on the Surface Pro after enabling the AutoSR super resolution. It's not clear whether Baldur's Gate 3 also uses this technology to reach 30 FPS, and this setting was not mentioned in the previous report.

Previously, there were rumors that Baldur's Gate 3 will land on the iPad Pro series in 2025, and then the competition between the Apple M series chip and the Snapdragon XElite chip will also be quite interesting.
