Microsoft Reaches Agreement with CISPE to Avoid EU Investigation

TapTechNews July 11th news, according to Reuters, in order to avoid the EU's investigation into its cloud computing department, Microsoft announced that it has reached a 20 million euros (TapTechNews note: currently about 158 million yuan) agreement with the European Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers Association (CISPE) and agreed that members of the association can use Microsoft's related software and services.

TapTechNews queried public information and found that the CISPE association includes Microsoft's cloud computing competitor Amazon Web Services, as well as some smaller cloud computing companies.

CISPE previously filed a complaint with the European Commission, accusing Microsoft's cloud business of improper behavior that affects the healthy competition of the entire market. In order to avoid the investigation, in addition to reaching a financial settlement with CISPE, Microsoft also agreed to allow CISPE members to run Microsoft's software.

It is reported that Microsoft will provide an enhanced version of AzureStackHCI for European cloud providers, which will offer features such as multi-session virtual desktop infrastructure based on Windows 11, free Extended Security Updates (ESU), and pay-as-you-go licensing for SQL Server.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a statement:

After more than a year of working with CISPE and its European members, I am very pleased that we have not only addressed their past concerns but also jointly identified the way forward, bringing more competition to the cloud computing market in Europe and beyond.
