China's Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Update in May 2024

TapTechNews June 14th, the China EV Charging Alliance today released the operation situation of national electric vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure in May 2024.

Data shows that in May, the number of public charging piles increased by 73,000 compared to April, with a year-on-year growth of 46.3% in May. As of May this year, a total of 3.049 million public charging piles have been reported by the members of the alliance, including 1.347 million DC charging piles and 1.702 million AC charging piles. From June 2023 to May 2024, the monthly average increase in public charging piles is about 80,000.

Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Beijing, Sichuan The public charging piles built in the TOP10 regions account for 69.9%.

The national charging electricity is mainly concentrated in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, Shanxi and other provinces. The electricity flow is mainly for buses and passenger cars, and the proportion of other types of vehicles such as sanitation and logistics vehicles and taxis is relatively small.

In May 2024, the total national charging electricity was about 4.14 billion kWh, an increase of 200 million kWh compared to the previous month, with a year-on-year growth of 50.9% and a month-on-month growth of 5.0%.

These 15 operators account for 88.1% of the total, and the rest of the operators account for 11.9%.

From January to May this year, the increment of charging infrastructure is 1.328 million units, and the domestic sales volume of new energy vehicles is 3.895 million units. The ratio of piles to vehicles increment is 1:2.9. The construction of charging infrastructure can basically meet the rapid development of new energy vehicles.
