China's Long March 10 Series Rocket Completes First-Stage Engine Test

TapTechNews June 14th news, according to CCTV News reports, today, the Long March 10 series rocket of the Aerospace Science and Technology Group's No. 1 Institute for manned lunar landing and other tasks successfully completed the test of the first-stage rocket power system. During the test, the engine started normally, worked stably, shut down on time, and all parameters were tested normally.

It is reported that this test is the first systematic large-scale ground test of the Long March 10 series launch vehicle, which has fully verified the matching of the pressurized delivery system of the first stage with the engine, the propellant filling process, the multi-engine parallel force transmission and environmental characteristics and other technologies.

According to TapTechNews' inquiry, the new-generation manned lunar landing launch vehicle of the Long March 10 adopts a three-and-a-half stage configuration. The rocket is composed of boosters, core first stage, core second stage, core third stage, escape tower and fairing. The total length of the rocket is about 90 meters (about 295 feet) and is strapped with 2 boosters with basically the same structure as the core first stage. The takeoff weight is about 2200 tons. The rocket is composed of the rocket structure system, electrical system, engine system, pressurized delivery system, ground test and launch control system and launch support system.

The Long March 10 launch vehicle is a new-generation manned spaceship used for China's manned lunar exploration mission, and it is a new type of space-tound-earth round-trip transport vehicle under research. This type of manned spaceship can take into account the operation of the near-earth space station and has the characteristics of high safety, high reliability, multi-task support and reusability. It can carry 3 astronauts for the lunar landing mission, and can carry 7 astronauts for the near-earth orbit flight mission.

It is known that the power system test is the ground development test with the most systems, the most complex state and the greatest difficulty in the development of launch vehicles. The power system test of the Long March 10 series launch vehicle is the simultaneous ignition of three YF-100K engines at the first stage. This is the largest power system test in the development process of launch vehicles in China at the present stage, and the ground thrust reaches 382 tons (about 842,380 pounds), which is 1.6 times higher than that of the previous largest-scale test. This test marks that the Long March 10 series launch vehicles have fully turned to carry out the fast lane of large-scale ground test development.

According to the subsequent research and development plan, the Long March 10 series launch vehicle will carry out the second first-stage power system test work again in the near future to further verify other working conditions and lay a foundation for the smooth implementation of the manned lunar exploration project.
