Sony Reportedly Planning PS3 Backward Compatibility for PS5

TapTechNews June 24, according to today's report by GameRant, the trusted insider Shpeshal_Nick revealed in a recent podcast that Sony is planning to let PS3 games run natively on PS5 and is developing part of the backward compatibility function of PS3 for PS5.

It is reported that Sony may select a separate part of PS3 games to make them come back to life on PS5, similar to what Microsoft has done to backward compatible games on Xbox One and XSX|S and other devices. But the whistleblower said he is not informed about specific situations, such as whether these PS3 games will get an improvement in FPS and other aspects.

Sony Reportedly Planning PS3 Backward Compatibility for PS5_0

Although Sony sometimes transfers older PlayStation games to the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog, the backward compatibility of PS5 still has many deficiencies. After all, the vast majority of PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PS Vita games cannot run on modern PlayStation platforms.

The poor backward compatibility of PS5 is widely criticized by players, largely because most games of the previous generations of PlayStation (excluding the PS4 era) cannot run on PS5.

TapTechNews Note: Currently, many classic games are still exclusively on the PlayStation 3 platform, such as inFAMOUS, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Killzone 2, etc.
