TapTechNews May 20th news, Samsung attended the 2024 Society for Information Display (SID) event held from May 14th to 16th and showcased various types of microdisplays, including OLEDoS screens for XR headsets, OLED screens for military uses such as rifle scopes, and a robot that can test the durability of OLED screens.
The company showcased an RGB OLEDoS (silicon-based OLED) panel for extended reality (XR) devices at the event. It is manufactured by eMagin, which was acquired by Samsung Display last year.
This is a 1.03-inch RGB OLED panel with a pixel density of 3500 ppi, suitable for AR, VR, and XR headsets and made using a new type of fine silicon mask (FSM).
TapTechNews note: FSM can achieve more densely packed pixels than traditional fine metal masks (FMM) and is fabricated through micropores using a semiconductor lithography process.
The company also designed a robot that can test the durability of OLED panels. It is modified from a robot used in the OLED production line.
This robot can shake a 7.6-inch foldable OLED panel in a water-filled tank, sprinkle with pepper and salt, scrub with an iron scrubber, and then pour steel balls on it.
