Japan's Imported Car Market Pure Electric Vehicles on the Rise, BYD's Growth

TapTechNews July 15th news, according to the report in the Nikkei last Friday, data from the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA) shows that in the first half of this year, the local imported car sales volume was 113,887 units, a year-on-year decrease of 7%, among which pure electric vehicles reached 10,785 units, accounting for nearly 10% of the total imported cars in Japan.

At the same time, the market share of pure electric vehicles rose by 2 percentage points year-on-year to about 9.5%. TapTechNews attached the sales situation of some brands as follows:

Mercedes-Benz ranked first, selling 25,692 units, a year-on-year increase of 0.4%;

BMW ranked second, selling 16,102 units, a year-on-year decrease of 3%;

BYD ranked 14th (19th in the same period last year), selling 1,084 units, a year-on-year increase of 88%;

Others sold 2,748 units, a year-on-year increase of 4%, among which Tesla accounted for the majority.

Observing the sales situation by price range, more than 10 million yen (about 456,000 yuan RMB) decreased by 13% year-on-year, and less than 4 million yen (about 182,700 yuan RMB) also decreased by 27%. On the other hand, the sales volume of 4 million to 10 million yen in the middle increased by 2%.

The report said that BYD's sales in Japan reached 149 units in June, a year-on-year increase of 60%. At the same time, BYD is also gradually increasing the models sold in Japan.
