Gaode Map and Baidu Map Receive Apology Letters for Inaccurate Home Appliance Repair Info

TapTechNews September 24th news, in response to the inaccurate home appliance repair information and dishonest behavior of settled merchants in the map service, the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Committee (Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee) has recently received The Apology Letters from Gaode Map and Baidu Map respectively.

Gaode Map stated:

It has immediately established a special working group, carried out self-examination and self-correction, and suspended the marking and display service of Shanghai home appliance repair merchants, concentrating on re-checking and verifying the Point of Interest (POI) points of home appliance repair on the platform to ensure the accuracy of all kinds of information. Gaode Map also focuses on the work of map POI review and inspection, merchant license verification, and handling of violations and dishonesty, and has established a regular mechanism to prevent the recurrence of similar problems.

Baidu Map stated:

It has organized a special team to conduct a comprehensive self-examination and clean-up work. In order to improve the accuracy of information, Baidu Map promised to continuously optimize the data risk control mechanism, upgrade the technology and information review ability, and strengthen the interception of risky points. At the same time, Baidu Map will also actively interact with regulatory authorities and all sectors of society, and fully protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers by setting up a feedback channel for consumer experience problems, dispatching map resource positions for consumer rights protection publicity work, etc.

According to the previous report of TapTechNews, on August 27th, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee conducted a talk with Gaode Map and Baidu Map for the frequent chaos in the home appliance repair service market recently. This talk focused on the problems of high-priced charges, false repairs, and false merchant information existing in the home appliance repair information and services of these two platforms.

From August 14th to 22nd, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee used the keyword of "air conditioner repair" to search and select the third-party home appliance repair merchants recognized or recommended by the platform on Gaode Map and Baidu Map for testing. The test used covert shooting and recording methods to comprehensively and multi-angularly record the whole service process of the repair personnel in the leased residence. The test scenario was set as the air conditioner remote control failure, resulting in the inability to operate the air conditioner.

The unannounced visit results showed that among the three repair merchants found through Gaode Map, there were also serious behaviors that seriously damaged the legitimate rights and interests of consumers such as false quotations, false repairs, and fabricated faults.

The first repair person lied that the main board was damaged and the refrigerant was lacking, and repaired by fiddling with the inner unit and falsely adding liquid, charging 680 yuan. However, after expert appraisal later, the so-called adding liquid actually released some of the air conditioner refrigerant.

The second repair person also lied that the main board was damaged and charged 547 yuan.

The third repair person lied that the air conditioner sensor was damaged and replaced the sensor. In fact, it cut the sensor connection wire and rewrapped it with a wrapping cloth, charging 400 yuan.

In the case of Baidu Map, among the two repair merchants found by the staff, there was also a serious behavior that seriously damaged the legitimate rights and interests of consumers such as false quotations, false repairs, and fabricated faults. The repair person falsely connected the pressure pipe connector of the pressure gauge and lied that the air conditioner was lacking liquid, and then claimed t o have added 9 pressure Freons after sending the unannounced visit personnel away, charging 600 yuan.

The Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee also found that a large number of false situations existed in the home appliance repair merchant addresses marked by Gaode Map and Baidu Map:

Among the 178 home appliance repair information of Gaode Map, 74 were suspected to be false, accounting for 41.6%;

Among the 164 home appliance repair information of Baidu Map, 65 were suspected to be false, accounting for 39.6%.

The Shanghai Consumer Protection Committee required the two enterprises of Gaode Map and Baidu Map to take immediate and effective corrective measures. One is to strictly review and clean up the home appliance repair merchants on the platform to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of merchant information, and the other is to apologize and compensate to consumers for their wrong behaviors.
