7-Zip Releases 24.05 Stable Version Update with New Compression Algorithm Features

TapTechNews May 16th news, the compression software 7-Zip recently released the 24.05 stable version update. In addition to fixing some bugs, it also introduced a new option -myv={MMNN} for setting the compatibility version of the 7z file compression algorithm.

TapTechNews Note: MMNN is a 4-digit number representing the 7-Zip version without dots. If users specify the -myv={MMNN} switch, 7-Zip will only use the compression algorithm of that version, but it can still decompress files compressed with the specified version as well as subsequent versions.

If users do not specify -myv={MMNN}, then by default the -myv=2300 is used. This means that the 7-Zip application will use the 23.00 version to compress files, and files can be decompressed using version 23.00 and later.

In this version update, 7-Zip also introduced -myfa={FilterID} and -myfd={FilterID}, which allow 7-Zip to enable or disable specific filtering methods for creating 7z compressed files.

7-Zip is an open-source data compression program mainly used in the Microsoft Windows operating system. There are also ported versions of 7-Zip for Unix-like operating systems such as Linux and FreeBSD, such as p7zip. It provides both command-line interface programs and graphical user interface programs, and can be integrated with the file explorer.
