The Development of High-Capacity SSDs

TapTechNews June 21, with the growth of enterprise scale, the amount of data generated every day is also increasing continuously, and backing up and managing these data will also become increasingly difficult. At the same time, the introduction of generative AI has further aggravated this problem, posing a huge challenge to traditional storage methods.

In fact, 128-terabyte solid-state drives have been brewing for a long time. For example, Huawei had previously announced that it was developing a 128-terabyte SSD, but the product is only provided as part of its Exabyte-level OceanStor A800 series and is not expected to be available until 2025.

At the CES 2024 show earlier this year, Phison showcased various SSDs and SSD controllers, including its X2 series SSD platform for enterprises, but the capacity of this "world's best enterprise SSD" is only 61.44 TB.

Last month, Phison launched the Pascari X200 PCIe Gen5 enterprise SSD series. Although the maximum capacity of the first batch of models is only 32 TB, according to Techradar, Phison is about to introduce models with larger capacities sooner than expected.

Phison representatives disclosed that the brand plans to launch 64-terabyte and 128-terabyte X200 solid-state drives in the "next few months," but they could not disclose more information.

Combined with this time, we expect to see the relevant technology and even the product亮相 at the FMS conference to be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center from August 6 to 8 this year, and TapTechNews will bring you a more detailed report at that time.

At the same time, the Phison representative also mentioned "expecting to see some PCIe Gen6 products at the FMS conference," hinting that the company is already developing the next-generation SSD technology.
