General Motors' Electrification Struggles and Future Outlook

TapTechNews on May 21 reports that General Motors faced many obstacles in its electrification process last year and the sales performance wasn't that great. However, Mary Barra, the chief executive officer of General Motors, believes that with the introduction of new models such as the Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer, and Silverado electric vehicles, these bottlenecks have become a thing of the past.

General Motors delivered 75,883 electric vehicles last year, failing to achieve the goal of selling more than 100,000 units in the second half of 2023.

TapTechNews learned from the report that Barra believes the main problems causing delivery delays are software issues, freight delays, and other factors, and these problems have been properly addressed this year. The target for this year is to produce 200,000 to 300,000 electric vehicles, which is approximately 20 times the output of General Motors last year.

Barra calls 2024 the year of execution, and General Motors will strive to get back on track.

Other executives, including the chief financial officer, Paul Jacobson, have also made similar remarks. Jacobson said in a speech earlier this year: We encountered some challenges when scaling up, and I think most of those challenges have passed.
