Ubuntu 23.10 Set to Expire in 2024, Canonical Urges Upgrade

TapTechNews on June 7th, Canonical announced today that the Ubuntu 23.10 Mantic Minotaur version will expire on July 11, 2024. Urging users to upgrade to a newer, supported Ubuntu version.

Canonical released the Ubuntu 23.10 distribution on October 20, 2023, featuring the GNOME 45 desktop environment and the Linux 6.5 kernel series. Since it is a temporary version, it only supports software and security updates for nine months.

After July 11, 2024 expires, Canonical will no longer push software and security updates to Ubuntu 23.10 users. The official said that after the expiration, Ubuntu 23.10 will become vulnerable to various threats and attacks, and it is strongly recommended that users upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat as soon as possible.

TapTechNews note: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is a long-term support version and will receive 5 years of basic support until May 31, 2029. Users can use the free Ubuntu Pro subscription service to extend the support period to 10 years until May 2034.
