Apple VisionPro Assists in Thoracoscopic Lung Cancer Resection at Peking University People's Hospital

TapTechNews June 3. It is reported by the People's Hospital of Peking University that recently, under the guidance of Academician Wang Jun, Director Li Yun and Professor Zhou Zuli, thoracic surgeon Gao Jian of the People's Hospital of Peking University successfully completed a thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer with the assistance of the Apple VisionPro head-mounted display, marking the entrance of thoracoscopic surgery into the dispenserless display era and opening a new milestone.

It is known that the relevant head-mounted display provides doctors with high-definition and zero-delay surgical scenes, allowing doctors to clearly observe the anatomical details during the surgical process in an enlarged view, helping doctors accurately locate and operate the surgical target, thereby improving the accuracy and safety of surgical operations, and at the same time can also realize real-time recording and distance teaching of the surgical process, providing a more intuitive effect for the training and teaching of doctors.

Dr. Gao Jian said: In the past, doctors needed to frequently switch between multiple monitors during surgery to obtain the patient's vital sign data and surgical-related information. Now, with this head-mounted device, Apple VisionPro, all information can be clearly and intuitively displayed in front of the eyes. If it is necessary to check the patient's CT scan results or other data again, doctors can non-contact retrieval and read this information only through simple eye, gesture and voice interaction, greatly improving the efficiency and safety of the surgery.

According to TapTechNews' inquiry, this is not the first time that Apple VisionPro has been used in surgery. In March this year, an operating assistant in London, UK replaced Microsoft's HoloLens2 head-mounted display with Apple's VisionPro and described it as a breakthrough change. In April this year, the Third Bethune Hospital of Jilin University in China successfully completed the world's first case of laparoscopic radical resection of sigmoid colon cancer aided by VisionPro head-mounted display; as of May this year, it is said that more than 30 surgical operations have been aided by Apple VisionPro head-mounted display.
