Tesla Tests Whether V4 Supercharger Can Exceed 300 Kilowatts of Charging Power

TapTechNews August 6th news, Tesla is currently testing whether the existing V4 Supercharger (using the V3 charging cabinet) can achieve a charging power of more than 300 kilowatts. Tesla's supercharging network is undoubtedly the best fast-charging network in the world, with wide coverage, easy use, and high reliability. However, it has always lagged behind competitors in terms of charging speed.

Back in 2016, a netizen asked if the V3 Supercharger Station could achieve a charging power of 350 kilowatts. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded at that time that 350 kilowatts was just a piece of cake. However, the power of the V3 Supercharger was finally limited to 250 kilowatts. Although this is sufficient for Tesla models, Tesla has opened its charging network to non-Tesla electric vehicles, and many models can accept a charging power of 400 kilowatts, and other charging stations also have this ability.

According to TapTechNews, Tesla then launched the V4 Supercharger, but because it still uses the V3 charging cabinet to provide power, its charging power has not been improved. These charging stations are called V3+. We know that the V4 Supercharger can achieve a charging power of 350 kilowatts, but Tesla needs to start deploying new charging cabinets to reach this level.

Now, Tesla's chief engineer Wes Morrill disclosed that the company is currently testing the ability of some of these V3+ charging stations to exceed 320 kW of charging power. Although the plan after the successful test has not been announced yet, this news is undoubtedly exciting. If the test is successful, Tesla's huge supercharging network will further improve the charging efficiency, shorten the charging time, and enhance the competitiveness.
