TapTechNews June 19th - Jaguar Land Rover China's official WeChat **** announced this morning that Jaguar Land Rover has signed a strategic cooperation letter of intent with Chery Automobile, authorizing Chery Jaguar Land Rover to use the 'Freelander' brand on its new electric vehicles.

It is reported that the new product line of Chery Jaguar Land Rover will adopt the reborn 'Freelander' brand and Chery's pure electric platform, and be manufactured at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Changshu factory. The 'Freelander' electric product line will be produced in parallel with the existing product line of Chery Jaguar Land Rover.

In addition, 'Freelander' will launch a series of electrified products in the Chinese market through a specific network, and realize overseas export in the future. 'Freelander' is independent of Chery's existing product line and Jaguar Land Rover's new modern luxury brand family.

TapTechNews note: 'Freelander' was once a model under the Land Rover brand, and its product cycle was from 1997 to 2015, and was replaced by the Discovery Sport Edition in 2016.

Relevant people disclosed that the cooperation is close to being finalized, and Jaguar Land Rover will use the hybrid and pure electric two technical platforms under Chery Automobile's Xingtu brand.

But Jin Yibo, the press spokesman of Chery Group, said on the same day that there are rumors on the Internet that Jaguar Land Rover is the luxury automaker that cooperates with Chery's platform, which is not true. Jaguar Land Rover also once denied this news, and said it was groundless.
