Regrettably, the official has not yet announced more information about this work. This work was initially announced in the 35th anniversary commemorative live broadcast of the series in 2021, and it was only stated that it would land on the console platform at that time. Square Enix said at that time: The high-definition 2D remake version of Dragon Quest III will bring a unique experience to both old players and new players, making the game show a special three-dimensional effect by adding 3D effects on the pixel-style background.

According to TapTechNews' understanding, the original work Dragon Quest III: The Legend Begins first landed on the Famicom (NES) platform in 1988. Later, it landed on the Super Nintendo in 1996, on the Game Boy Advance in 2001, and was successively ported to the Wii and mobile phone platforms.

The upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake adopts the same graphic style as the recent Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. This seemingly simple graphic style actually has a quite high production cost. The producer, Tomoya Asano, said in 2022: The cost of developing a high-definition 2D game may exceed your imagination, but this style is very suitable for the works that Square Enix wants to launch, and other companies imitating it may not bring much profit.
