Limited Edition Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M Comes with iPod Touch

TapTechNews May 13th news, Ferrari has always been famous for its performance, aesthetics, and rarity, but the limited edition 430 Scuderia Spider 16M is unique for another feature.

In 2008, to celebrate Ferrari team's 16th World Formula One Team Championship, Ferrari launched the convertible supercar 430 Scuderia Spider 16M. In addition to its powerful performance and beautiful appearance, the factory also comes with an Apple iPod Touch.

Ferrari has always advocated focusing on driving, placing almost all controls in front of the driver to reduce distractions. However, this limited edition model breaks the convention. According to PistonHeads website, British luxury car dealer HROwen is selling a 430 Scuderia Spider 16M, which was limited to 499 units, and not all models come with an iPod Touch, some are equipped with the traditional Becker Cascade radio. It is reported that the built-in iPod Touch in the car is the 16GB version, and comes with an Alcantara case and a quick start guide. The Dutch store Baroli Automobilia had previously sold this iPod Touch (without the car) separately.

Before the popularity of Apple CarPlay, this detachable iPod Touch was placed in the docking station on the center console of the vehicle. Interestingly, Ferrari has always been against touch screens, believing that the central display screen will distract the driver. Nowadays, Ferrari's new models still integrate most functions on the dashboard, but models like Roma and 812 Superfast have begun to be equipped with central screens.

It is worth mentioning that back in 2014 when the FF was launched, Ferrari became the first car manufacturer to fully integrate Apple CarPlay. As for the iPod Touch, since its functions have long been replaced by the iPhone, Apple discontinued this product line in 2022.

Apple offered a 32GB version of the iPod Touch at that time, but Ferrari chose the 16GB version. Considering the high price of $313,350 for this car (TapTechNews note: approximately 2.269 million RMB at the current exchange rate), Ferrari may have been a bit stingy. However, there is also a saying that Ferrari deliberately chose the 16GB iPod Touch to echo the 16 theme.
