TapTechNews June 18th news, market research institute Canalys released the latest report, estimating that in 2024, the personal computer (including desktop, notebook and workstation) market in Chinese mainland is expected to shrink by 1% (but it will have a 12% rebound in 2025.)

The report points out that the global market has resumed the growth trend in the first quarter of 2024, while the PC shipments in the first quarter in Chinese mainland still decreased by 12%.

Desktop and Notebook

Lenovo's shipments were 2.728 million units, with a market share of 34%, a year-on-year decrease of 16%.

Huawei's shipments were 0.956 million units, with a market share of 12%, unchanged year-on-year.

HP's shipments were 0.69 million units, with a market share of 9%, a year-on-year decrease of 24%.

ASUS's shipments were 0.623 million units, with a market share of 8%, a year-on-year decrease of 11%.

Apple's shipments were 0.475 million units, with a market share of 6%, a year-on-year decrease of 21%.

Tablet

AI not only promotes the development of the PC market, but also becomes an important catalyst for the tablet market. Although the notebook and desktop shipments in the first quarter decreased by 13% and 11% respectively, the tablet market achieved a 22% growth.

Huawei continues to update its tablet product portfolio, introducing low-end products of the MatePad SE series and high-end products of the MatePad Pro series. Other manufacturers have successively launched new devices and AI applications to improve efficiency (such as recording, translation and note-taking apps) to empower the tablet.

Honor's shipments were 0.65 million units, with a market share of 9%, a year-on-year decrease of 7%.

The institute believes that benefited from the commercial field, especially the procurement needs of large state-owned enterprises and local government departments, the desktop shipments in 2024 are expected to perform well, with a year-on-year increase of 10%. In the short term, consumers and private enterprises still remain cautious in terms of expenditures on PCs, and it is expected tha t the notebook computer shipments for the whole year will decrease by 5%.
