Samsung to Provide 7-Year TizenOS Free Upgrades on AI TVs to Expand Market Share

TapTechNews August 23rd news, according to the report of BusinessKorea website, on August 22nd, Yoon Suk-woo, president of the Visual Display Division of Samsung Electronics, announced that it will provide seven-year TizenOS free upgrades on AI TVs to consolidate its leading position in the AI TV market.

Yoon Suk-woo believes that the seven-year free upgrade of TizenOS will help Samsung enlarge the market share gap with Chinese competitors. Tizen is an operating system independently developed by Samsung and has been applied to more than 270 million Samsung smart TVs as of last year, becoming the world's largest smart TV platform and also a key player leading the Internet of Things (IoT) era.

It is reported that this seven-year free update service will apply to models released in March this year and some 2023 models. This plan is part of Samsung's broader strategy to ensure leadership in artificial intelligence, which also includes providing seven-year free software updates for the Galaxy S24 series released this year.

TapTechNews noted that according to the report of market research company Omdia in February this year, South Korean Samsung Electronics once again topped the global TV sales champion in 2023, which is its 18th consecutive year at the top since 2006. According to the report, Samsung's global TV market share in 2023 is 30.1%.
