Sony stated that since its release in September 2023, mocopi (mobile version) has not only been used by VUP (Virtual Uploader, virtual UP host), but also widely by creators participating in film and animation production.

Usual motion capture requires studio facilities with multiple cameras set up and wearing full-body leotards or multiple markers, while mocopi only uses six small, lightweight sensors and a smartphone (paired with the mocopi mobile app) to achieve motion capture or real-time motion capture data input for VR.

The mocopi PC application extends the functions of the mobile app to the large screen, enabling a series of tasks such as motion capture, file saving, preview, and sending on the PC without the need to transfer files from the mobile to the PC, and the screen of the mocopi PC application can be directly live streamed using external live streaming software. Sensor calibration can also be done on the PC, and there is an uninterrupted workflow when used with third-party PC production software.

Sony has also launched the following updates for mocopi:

1. Enhance the accuracy feedback after sensor connection: The enhanced feedback mechanism improves the accuracy of the motion data, providing more reliable data for creators.

2. Expand the sensor functions: Users can now reset poses and positions by pressing the button on the wrist sensor, simplifying the calibration process.

3. Enhance the motion data playback function: The background can be changed during the playback of motion data, and BVH motion data files from other devices can be played, expanding the usage range.

4. Improve the flexibility of country and region settings: Users can now change the country and region settings after the initial setup.

5. Integrate with the face capture software Animaze: In the Animaze application, full-body motion capture using mocopi is supported.

TapTechNews noticed that Sony also released the mocopiDataAnalyzer application, which can visualize raw sensor data and help creators and developers integrate the raw data of mocopi into projects. A new plug-in for Maya and comprehensive tutorials will also be released on the mocopi developer website, which can help creators use the functions of mocopi in this 3D animation software.
