Volkswagen Poznań Plant in Poland Fully Adopts Solar Power Generation

TapTechNews September 30th news, last Friday, the Volkswagen Poznań (VWP) plant located in Września, Poland, completely adopted solar power generation for the first time.

It includes 25,000 modules and has a power generation capacity of 15.2 megawatts (MW). Under good weather conditions, its solar power plant can provide 100% of the required power.

"The new photovoltaic power plant at the Września plant is an important step towards complete energy self-sufficiency and sustainable and environmentally friendly production," said Stefanie Hegels, CEO of Volkswagen Poznań. "It also ensures that we can obtain energy at a stable price."

TapTechNews found through official data that the first phase of its solar power plant had been put into operation in 2023, while the second phase was only completed in cooperation with QuantaEnergy until recently. The facility covers an area of 22 hectares and is one of the largest on-site facilities in Europe and the entire Volkswagen Group.

The Volkswagen Group has set itself the goal of achieving carbon neutrality at all manufacturing bases by 2040, and the Polish plant is playing a pioneering role in this regard. Since 2019, all Volkswagen Poznań plants have been completely powered by green energy. Further renewable energy projects are currently being planned, including an additional 3.1-megawatt solar power plant and a 6.5-megawatt rooftop power generation system. At the same time, the program of building wind turbine generators by Volkswagen in the local area has also been initiated.
