Prominent Chinese Scientist Wang Zhonglin Returns to China after Decades in the US

TapTechNews September 25th news, the world's leading nanoscience and nanotechnology scientist - Wang Zhonglin, known as the father of nanogenerators, was exposed to have left his decades-long career in the US and returned to China for employment.

According to the South China Morning Post on September 24th, multiple Chinese media and a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology confirmed that Wang Zhonglin had resigned from his position in the US and is currently working full-time at the institute he helped found in Beijing.

It is also reported that at the end of 2010, when Wang Zhonglin came to China to attend a conference, Bai Chunli, then the executive vice president and deputy secretary of the Party group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, asked him if he was interested in leading the establishment of an institute focusing on nano-energy and nano-systems. After returning to the US, Wang Zhonglin immediately applied to the Georgia Institute of Technology and he helped establish the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The official website of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences shows that on July 19th of this year, the first council establishment conference and the first council meeting were held. Seven industry experts and investment experts including Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Li Yuliang formed the first council of the Nanoenergy Institute.

The meeting passed a vote to appoint Wang Zhonglin as the director and chief scientist of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems. Wang Zhonglin thanked all parties and the council for their trust and expressed that he will continue to lead the Nanoenergy Institute on the path of scientific originality, play the international card well, follow the international route, and consolidate the original + leading position in this field.

Public information shows that Wang Zhonglin was born in 1961 in Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province. He graduated from Northwest Telecommunication Engineering Institute (now Xidian University) in 1982. He is a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the European Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the director of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the dean of the Nano College of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a chair professor, and a doctoral supervisor.

Wang Zhonglin is mainly engaged in the theoretical and applied research of nanomaterials science, including the synthesis, characterization, growth mechanism and application of zinc oxide nanomaterials; controllable growth, characterization and application of nanomaterials; nanoenergy technology and self-driven nano-system technology; piezoelectronics and piezo-photovoltaics.

In 2019, Wang Zhonglin won the Albert Einstein World Science Award, and is the first Chinese scientist to win this award.

According to the latest Standardized Citation Index Full-Science Author Database ranking jointly announced by the world's largest academic publisher Elsevier and Stanford University in the US, Wang Zhonglin ranked second again in the total career influence ranking and ranked first for five consecutive years in the single-year scientific influence ranking.
