The developer, kaitlyn, posted on X yesterday, saying, With the help of some friends (including CorpNewt and others), we finally got macOS running on the SteamDeck. This process took quite a while, but we finally found a solution to get a newer macOS than Catalina to boot. This is the macOS Sequoia recovery mode that is now running on the SteamDeck.

At present, this achievement may not have any practical applications for the time being, but the situation in the future may be different. He said that currently the device does not have GPU acceleration support yet, but this developer believes that in the future someone will develop an iGPUkext for the VanGogh processor because macOS already supports RDNA2.

kext (kernel extension) is a module in the macOS system used to extend the kernel's functionality, similar to a driver in Windows. In terms of GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), kext is mainly used to support and optimize the performance and compatibility of graphics hardware.
