Toyota Continues to Suspend Production of Cheated Models in Japan

It is reported that this extension of the suspension time is to wait for the confirmation of the safety of these models by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan. At the same time, the company itself is also conducting additional investigations. Toyota has informed its parts suppliers that it will continue to suspend production. This suspension will affect more than 1000 suppliers.

In view of the successive violations in the process of obtaining the type certification required for the mass production of automobiles and engines by companies such as Japan's Daihatsu Industries, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan instructed a total of 85 automobile production companies to investigate whether there are similar situations. By the end of May, Toyota Motor, Mazda, Yamaha Motor, Honda R & D Industries, and Suzuki have cheating behaviors in vehicle performance tests, etc. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan will investigate these 5 companies in accordance with the Road Transport Vehicles Act.

The Japanese Ministry of Transport requires that the shipment of the existing 6 models of 3 companies including Toyota, Mazda and Yamaha Motor be suspended until they are confirmed to meet the safety standards.

On June 3, executives from Toyota, Honda, and Mazda held separate press conferences to apologize for this matter. Toyota Group President Akio Toyoda said at the press conference, 'Cheating is a matter of principle that shakes the certification system and is something that automakers must never do.
