China's First Data Resources Survey Report Released

TapTechNews May 24th news, according to CCTV News and China Securities Journal reports, the National Data Resources Survey Report (2023) was officially released today at the 7th Digital China Construction Summit. This is the first time that a comprehensive physical examination has been conducted on data resources in China.

Data shows that the total data production in the whole country in 2023 reaches 32.85 zettabytes (ZB), which is equivalent to the total digital resources of more than 10 million National Libraries of China.

TapTechNews note: Zettabyte, also known as ten trillion gigabytes, is abbreviated as ZB in English. According to the definition of the international unit system, 1 zettabyte is equivalent to 10 to the 21st power of bytes, 10 to the 12th power (1 trillion) GB, and 10 to the 9th power (1 billion) TB.

According to the introduction, the data production in China in 2023 increased by 22.44% compared to 2022, and the travel data related to intelligent connected vehicles increased by 49% year-on-year, and the manufacturing data related to intelligent production equipment such as industrial robots increased by 20% year-on-year.

The report points out that it is expected that the growth of data production in China this year will exceed 25%. In addition, the total national data storage in 2023 is 1.73 zettabytes. Among the stored data, the data that has not been used for one year accounts for about 40%, and the insufficient data processing ability leads to a large amount of data value being underestimated and difficult to be mined and reused.
