TapTechNews noticed that the release of the new M5 marks another important milestone in the busy schedule of BMW's M division this year. So far this year, we have seen the updates and replacements of the new M2, M3 and M4, and the highly anticipated X3 M50 is also about to be released in the near future.

The M5 has always been one of the most exciting models in the BMW M family, and the upcoming new model will also become one of the first plug-in hybrid MPerformance models. Just like the XM, both the new M5 sedan and station wagon versions will be equipped with the code-named S68 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor. It is reported that the combined output power will exceed 700 horsepower. Frank van Meel, head of BMW's M division, said, The pure electric range of G90 will reach 43.5 miles (about 70 kilometers).

Since there is no indication that the M550i is going to return, the M5 is likely to become the only 5-series model with an 8-cylinder engine, and this may also be the last 5-series/M5 model with a V8 engine.
