Microsoft Bets on New Generation of PCs to Compete with Apple's Mac

TapTechNews May 21st news, Microsoft's chief executive Satya Nadella is betting on a new generation of computers equipped with dedicated AI chips and faster performance, reigniting the long-standing competition between Windows PCs and Apple's Mac.

Apple has done extremely well, Nadella said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Monday. We now hope to bring the real competition back between Windows and Mac.

Microsoft has launched a new AI computer category called Copilot+PC. The company said that thanks to the chip dedicated to AI processing, Microsoft's Surface series and machines from other manufacturers will be 58% more powerful and faster than Apple's MacBook Air M3.

Apple is working hard to catch up with its competitors in the field of artificial intelligence, and it plans to present an ambitious strategy at the global developers conference next month. As TapTechNews previously reported, the company is placing high-end chips similar to those designed for the Mac in cloud computing servers to handle the artificial intelligence tasks that will soon be applied to Apple devices. Simpler artificial intelligence-related functions will be processed directly on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Microsoft is leveraging its relationship with OpenAI to establish an early advantage in the emerging field of generative AI services, but this partnership has already come under regulatory scrutiny. Officials in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom are reviewing Microsoft's AI investments and those of its competitors to determine if they impede competition or should be regulated more like mergers and acquisitions.

Nadella said that the partnerships between companies are increasing competition in this emerging field rather than limiting it.

There is a lot of competition today, right? he said. Whether it's between large companies or small companies. So I don't think it's a question of whether any one company acquires or not, but a question of competition.
