Google Abandons Ferrochrome Launcher Project for Android Devices

TapTechNews October 4th news, the tech media AndroidAuthority released a blog post today (October 4th), reporting that Google has abandoned the development of the Ferrochrome launcher project. This project can run the ChromeOS system with one click through a virtual machine on some Android devices such as Pixel.

TapTechNews reported in June this year that Google demonstrated the Ferrochrome project at the I/O 2024 conference and introduced ChromeOS to Pixel devices through the virtual machine method, suggesting that in the future ChromeOS can run seamlessly on Pixel devices.

It is reported that the Ferrochrome project was initially a technical demonstration to show the improved virtualization capabilities of Android.

In the code recently submitted by AOSPGerrit, Google removed the entire Ferrochrome launcher application in AOSP and does not intend to release or maintain its code in the future.

Google seems to be shifting to using a Debian-based distribution based on Linux instead of using ChromeOS as a test platform for the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF) development.
