HP to Transfer PC Production to Thailand and Set Up Design Center in Singapore

TapTechNews August 7th news, Nikkei Asia reported that HP plans to transfer the production of some personal computers (PCs). The main destination for this transfer is Thailand, and will set up a spare design center in Singapore.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, the TechInsights report shows that in the second quarter of 2024, HP shipped 10.7 million notebook computers, an increase of 1% year-on-year, with a market share of 22% and ranking second.

According to multiple people familiar with the matter, at least five HP suppliers are building new manufacturing plants or warehousing centers in Thailand, and two of them have been increasing production capacity at the request of HP since the beginning of this year.

An executive of a parts supplier said: We were worried that there would not be enough orders to fully utilize our Thai plant, but since the beginning of this year, we have received more requests from HP to manufacture parts locally, and our business in Thailand is now very busy.

Sources said that HP is recruiting about 200 electrical and mechanical engineers and supply chain experts in Singapore to make Singapore into an alternative design center, which will be responsible for new product development work and keep in touch with the supply chain.
