Whether Hybrid New Energy Vehicles Should Be Included in the License Plate Restriction Policy in Chengdu

TapTechNews July 15th news, "Sichuan Release" posted in the evening today, stating that currently the number of green-plate vehicles is increasing day by day, and "whether new energy vehicles should be included in the license plate restriction policy" has become a focus issue of concern for Chengdu citizens. On the "Ask Politics Sichuan" platform of the Sichuan Provincial Online Mass Work Platform, a netizen put forward an opinion suggesting that hybrid new energy vehicles (TapTechNews note: refers to plug-in hybrids here) be included in the restricted range.

This netizen gave the following reasons:

The country's vigorous promotion of new energy is based on environmental protection considerations, and the pure electric range of some hybrid models launched by some auto companies is only thirty to forty kilometers or so.

Precisely because of the short-distance range of hybrid models, most of the time it is still mainly relying on fuel drive, which undoubtedly aggravates environmental pollution and goes against the original intention of environmental protection and energy conservation.

The urgent need of the current traffic pressure, the restriction of hybrid models will effectively relieve the traffic pressure in our city and greatly improve the travel pass rate of citizens, thereby improving the happiness index of citizens.

In some relevant cities (Beijing), hybrid models have been included in the restriction. Through the restriction, traffic congestion has indeed been effectively relieved.

The Traffic Management Bureau of the Chengdu Municipal Public Security Bureau replied that regarding the suggestion of "including hybrid new energy vehicles in the restriction", the Municipal Public Security Bureau's Traffic Management Bureau will start the feasibility study in due course.

According to the relevant regulations of the "Announcement on Resuming the "Tail Number Restriction" Traffic Management Measures for Small Passenger Cars in the Urban Area", the current models that are not subject to the tail number restriction are:

Hanging new energy vehicle license plates of passenger cars;

Disabled people driving disabled people's special cars with a C5 driver's license;

Military vehicles, police cars, fire rescue vehicles, ambulances, engineering rescue vehicles and cruising taxis

Hanging license plate vehicles of embassies and consulates and foreign vehicles temporarily entering the country with approval;

Other vehicles stipulated by laws and regulations that are not restricted by the driving route and direction.
