Fujifilm's Retro Cameras High Demand but Low Production Capacity

TapTechNews August 10th news, on Wednesday, Fujifilm announced the financial data of the first fiscal quarter of the 2024 fiscal year, and the revenue of the professional imaging department increased by 33.8% year-on-year.

Fujifilm's CEO said in an interview that the manufacturing of retro cameras is difficult, so it is difficult to carry out large-scale production, resulting in low production capacity. In addition, another reason for the low production capacity is the difficulties encountered in the semiconductor industry, not only the sensors, but also the image processors.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, Fujifilm launched the X100VIA APS-C camera on February 20 this year. This camera adopts a 23mm F2.0 non-replaceable lens. Compared with the previous generation X100V camera, it mainly upgrades the 40MP X-Processor 5 sensor and adds 6 levels of in-body image stabilization. The domestic price is 11,390 yuan ($1600 approximately), but the camera has been in short supply until today and even requires a lottery purchase.

Fujifilm's CEO said that the dials of the Fujifilm X100VI camera and its various cameras, because of the retro design, the cutting process used in production is more difficult and close to pure handcrafting, so it is difficult to carry out mass production.

In addition, Fujifilm seriously underestimated the market demand for the X100VI. As soon as the new machine was launched, it was almost sold out and in short supply. Currently, Fujifilm has doubled the production capacity of the X100VI camera, but it is still far from meeting the market demand.
