Nvidia Increases 4nm Chip Orders with TSMC for Blackwell Platform GPUs

TapTechNews July 16th news, the Economic Daily reported yesterday (July 15th) that Nvidia has placed additional 4nm chip orders with TSMC to meet customer demands, increasing the wafer starts of Blackwell platform GPU chips by 25%.

It is reported that TSMC will hold a press conference on July 18th to announce more details about the cooperation with Nvidia.

The amount of wafer starts and the price of each wafer foundry are inversely proportional, meaning that the more wafer starts, the lower the wafer foundry price received by the IC design company.

Industry insiders believe that with TSMC starting to produce Blackwell platform architecture graphics processors, it means that Nvidia's AI server equipped with the strongest AI chip on the earth is about to be delivered, which will open a new chapter in the field of AI.

This GPU is connected into a single, unified GPU through a chip-to-chip interconnect technology of 10 terabytes per second, supporting AI training and large language model inference, and the model can be scaled up to 10 trillion parameters.

Industry analysis predicts that the average selling price of Nvidia's B100 GPU will be between 30,000 US dollars and 35,000 US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 218,000 yuan to 255,000 yuan), while the selling price of the superchip GB200 composed of GraceCPU and B200GPU may be between 60,000 US dollars and 70,000 US dollars (currently about 437,000 yuan to 510,000 yuan), or even higher.

This will also become one of the most expensive chips in the terminal selling price manufactured by TSMC. With the development and application of global AI technology, including international giants such as Amazon, Dell, Google, Meta, and Microsoft, all plan to use Nvidia Blackwell architecture GPUs to build AI servers, and the demand exceeds expectations.

In addition, in terms of the number of terminal whole-server cabinets, it is expected that the shipment of server cabinets including GB200NVL72 and GB200NVL36 will increase significantly from the original expected 40,000 units to 60,000 units, an increase of 50%.

Among them, GB200NVL36 has 36 GB200s, 18 GraceCPUs, and 36 enhanced B200GPUs; GB200NVL72 has 72 GB200s, 36 GraceCPUs, and 72 B200GPUs.

Industry estimates that the average selling price of the GB200NVL36 server cabinet is 1.8 million US dollars (currently about 13.108 million yuan), and the selling price of the GB200NVL72 server cabinet is even higher at 3 million US dollars (currently about 21.847 million yuan).
