Microsoft said that the valid subscription certificate is distributed through the Microsoft 365 Administration Center, and users will have an 'access denied' error and show the '0x80070005' error code after the upgrade fails.

Microsoft traced the problem and said it was caused by the KB5036893 cumulative update released on Patch Tuesday in April 2024. TapTechNews previously reported that this update has errors such as white screen, slow running speed, WSL not working, and failed installation: Error 0x800705b9.

Microsoft did not announce a temporary solution in the update log and only said that a new patch is being developed and will be released through Windows Update in the next few weeks.
