Tesla Announces Layoffs at Palo Alto and Fremont Factories

Despite strong opposition, Tesla is sticking to its layoff plan. On Monday local time, the company filed documents with the California government notifying it will lay off 223 people at the Palo Alto factory and 378 people at the Fremont factory. The layoffs will take effect on June 20, but it is unclear whether the affected employees have been informed of the news.

The Palo Alto factory is one of Tesla's main research and manufacturing centers and the headquarters of the entire brand's engineering department; the Fremont factory is a large production base with five assembly lines. Except for the Cybertruck, all current Tesla models are produced there.

In addition to these 601 workers, Tesla announced earlier this year that it would lay off more than 2,700 people in the Bay Area and 2,688 people in Texas. Tesla has now cut at least 5,989 jobs.

Last month, Tesla also stated that as part of Musk's global layoff plan, the company is preparing to lay off 6,020 people in California and Texas.

However, TapTechNews has noticed that there are reports that Tesla is recalling employees previously laid off from the Supercharger team, so the final number of layoffs may only be known by Tesla itself.
