Ubisoft's Closure of 'The Crew' Servers Sparks Petition Demanding Continued Game Availability

TechNews on May 16th - After Ubisoft shut down the servers for The Crew, they actively removed the game from players' libraries and revoked their access. This move has sparked the 'StopKillingGames' movement, with 23,000 people signing a petition demanding that the UK government mandate continued availability of games after support ends.

The UK government recently responded, but the response was not enthusiastic. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport stated:

UK law does not require software companies and suppliers to support old operating systems, software, or online services. However, video game retailers must comply with existing consumer laws.

Following the translation of the statement by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) by TapTechNews:

If consumers were led to believe that a game could still be played indefinitely on certain systems even after physical support ends, the DCMS would require the game to be playable under those conditions.

Due to Ubisoft shutting down the servers for The Crew, players are unable to continue their campaigns in the game. As a result, players are hoping Ubisoft will release a single-player patch for the game.
