OmniVision Group Launches 50MP Mobile Phone Image Sensor OV50M40 with Advanced Features_0

OV50M40 is a multifunctional 0.61 micron pixel size CMOS image sensor, capable of 50 million pixel output and has functions such as single-exposure dual analog gain (DAG) video HDR, low-power always-on mode, and integrates smart phone front camera, wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle camera and telephoto camera technologies.

OV50M40 supports interlaced HDR and DAGHDR technologies. Interlaced HDR can expand the dynamic range and improve the quality of video and still image capture; the built-in DAG can provide single-exposure HDR support and reduce motion artifacts in harsh lighting conditions.

OV50M40 image sensor uses quad-pixel binning with a 0.61 micron pixel size, is equipped with noise reduction technology, and supports high gain mode. For the quad-pixel binning resolution, OV50M40 can achieve a maximum analog gain of 64 times.

OV50M40 supports phase detection auto focus (PDAF) for pixel binning and full-resolution modes, and adopts a hardware pixel restoration algorithm on the platform. This image sensor supports the always-on function for motion detection and is claimed to have extremely low power consumption. OV50M40 can continuously capture images through the rear or front camera and achieve 2x or 3x cropped zoom of the telephoto camera through quick mode switching.

OV50M40 supports 50 million pixels (PDAF auto focus, 12 frames/second), 12.5 million pixels (PDAF auto focus, 60 frames/second), 4K/2K video (PDAF auto focus, 60 frames/second) and 1080p video (120 frames/second). In addition, OV50M40 adopts a 1/2.88-inch optical format and supports CPHY/DPHY MIPI interface and dual DOVDD (1.8/1.2V).

TapTechNews learned from the official of OmniVision Group that OV50M40 will be sampled in the third quarter of 2024, and mass production will be achieved in the fourth quarter of 2024.
