Elon Musk's X Platform Agrees Not to Use EU User Data for AI Training

TapTechNews August 9th news, Reuters reported today (August 9th) that the X platform owned by Elon Musk agreed not to use some EU user data to train its AI chatbot.

An Irish court said on Thursday that the social media platform X agreed not to use personal data collected from EU users to train its AI system until they choose to withdraw their consent.

The Irish Data Protection Commission sought an order this week to suspend or limit the X company from processing user data to develop, train or improve its artificial intelligence system.

TapTechNews reported in July that X users found that they had been automatically selected to use their posts and interactions with the Grok chatbot under xAI for training and fine-tuning the xAI system, which was a data sharing without obtaining explicit consent from users in advance. However, users can only set it through the desktop version of X and currently cannot choose to refuse through the mobile app.

The Irish Data Protection Commission, which is responsible for enforcing EU privacy laws, said it has been negotiating for several months with X about its plan to use user data to create an AI system. The regulator said it recently sent questions to the company last Thursday about issues such as user transparency.
