Foreign Media Criticizes Microsoft's Short-term Profit-Oriented Behavior

TapTechNews May 16th news, foreign media WindowsCentral today published an article criticizing Microsoft's recent series of puzzling decisions and terrible behavior, believing that Microsoft has fallen into the short-term profit trap of insatiable greed and seriously damaged the long-term development of its products.

The foreign media criticized Microsoft CEO Nadella, believing that he is sacrificing the software and hardware relevance of Microsoft for short-term gains, burning long-term goals. Nadella has bet Microsoft's future on investing in other companies, burying the Windows Phone and cutting a large number of Surface product lines to improve company efficiency, but related costs have been needlessly shifted to developers and enterprise customers, causing them to lose a lot of costs, leading to a loss of trust in Microsoft.

In terms of security, Nadella recently sent a memorandum begging employees to prioritize security because Microsoft had previously been exposed to hacking incidents. The incident also alerted people that you would think that one of the world's most outstanding cloud companies would prioritize security, but in reality they had long had an enterprise disease.

In terms of product experience, foreign media believe that Microsoft's products have many bugs and difficulty in feedback. Foreign media encountered software bugs and tried to contact Microsoft support through Microsoft 365 customer service, but the communication difficulties led to unilateral disconnection of the call; subsequently, foreign media used email for feedback and went through a Kafkaesque contact process, ultimately solving the problem.

In terms of hardware, Nadella lamented last year that he killed the Windows Phone, but foreign media believe that Nadella did not indicate that Microsoft's Windows Phone ecosystem collapsed because they handed the ecosystem key to Apple and Google, and even became the best developers on the relevant platforms, in turn, Apple and Google spared no effort to hinder Microsoft's efforts in search, social media, games, and consumer-facing AI products.

In addition to Windows Phone, Microsoft also attempted to wipe out their proud hardware, as with the Surface Studio, the ad for this once stunning all-in-one computer (first generation) has completely disappeared from Microsoft's website, and people like Panos Panay and Alex Kipman, who were famous for leading Microsoft hardware innovation, are no longer working at the company for various reasons, and now the Surface Studio/Duo has been cut, and the Surface Neo is stillborn. Microsoft has effectively ended its innovation efforts in desktop computers, laptops, and tablets.

Foreign media believe that winning consumer trust is incredibly difficult, Microsoft has invested a lot of time and energy in planning the reputation and prestige of the Surface brand in previous years. Nadella has now easily abandoned all of this under his leadership, not only the death of Microsoft hardware, but actually the death of customer trust in Microsoft.

Regarding Windows 11, foreign media believe that Microsoft has become mentally deranged, as there are more and more ads in the system, although Microsoft claims that users can turn off these ads, the statements themselves are full of double standards, with radical and hypocrisy; and in promoting its Edge browser, Microsoft is relentless, from simply saying Hey, Microsoft Edge is actually quite good to resetting the default browser directly when users update the system, and even warning users not to install Chrome, and recommending users to continue using Microsoft Edge when searching for Chrome in Bing.

In terms of Xbox, foreign media believe that Microsoft has caused a disaster, and the survival of the Xbox business to this day is a complete miracle. Currently, Microsoft is vigorously promoting the porting of Xbox games to the Sony PlayStation platform, which will further erode users' confidence in buying Xbox consoles. Although the con sole hardware industry is struggling, and Microsoft is not the only hardware manufacturer experiencing a decline, Microsoft seems to be strangling the Xbox hardware business.

Foreign media states that Microsoft needs to learn some patience and rebuild its trust. The company's net income exceeded $20 billion last quarter (TapTechNews note: approximately 144.4 billion RMB). Much of this is attributed to the cloud. As Bill Gates once said, People tend to overestimate what will happen in the next two years and underestimate what will happen in ten years. However, Microsoft seems to be saying one thing and doing another, not learning from its own words.
