TapTechNews June 27th, BMW previously launched the plug-in hybrid M model XM, but the bulky and aggressive appearance design of this car disappointed many BMW fans. According to AutomotiveNews, the fully electric XM with the code name G79 was originally planned to go into production at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA in 2028. However, a source from the supply chain said that BMW has called off the plan.

BMW will continue to produce the XM plug-in hybrid version and plans to carry out a mid-term facelift before November 2028 to improve its controversial appearance design.

It is worth noting that the brand-new 4 Series coupé that BMW is about to introduce will be built on the Neue Klasse platform and will only offer a fully electric version. For BMW, streamlining the coupé product line is reasonable, as the sales of such models are relatively low. TapTechNews noted that Mercedes-Benz had previously adopted a similar strategy, discontinuing the C-Class and E-Class coupés and replacing them with the new CLE. However, it should be noted that since the platform does not support it, Mercedes-Benz currently has no plan to introduce a fully electric version of the CLE model.
