With the generational replacement of servers, a large number of general-purpose servers based on DDR4 memory will be replaced by new servers in the next few years, which means that millions of DDR4 memory sticks will be scrapped while still functioning properly, resulting in serious resource waste.

And the StructeraX2404 chip can rejuvenate these free memory sticks that have been fully depreciated financially and continue to provide memory capacity for the new generation of servers.

Marvell said that using StructeraX2404 + free DDR4 CXL memory expansion combination can reduce thousands of dollars in capital expenditure for each general-purpose server, and also helps to achieve the sustainability goals of the data center.

The Marvell StructeraX2404 chip is based on 5nm process and can provide more than 6TB of memory capacity. It supports PCIe5.0 and CXL2.0 and can be configured as a 1×16 or 2×8 port mode.

The chip is equipped with 4 memory channels and supports DDR4-3200 in the 2DPC (TapTechNews note: two memory sticks per channel) mode, while in the larger-capacity 3DPC mode, the memory frequency will be reduced to 1600MT/s.

StructeraX2404 supports DDR4 memory of UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM and even soldered DRAM particle types, and has a built-in LZ4 compression algorithm and supports AES-XTS 256-bit encryption and decryption.

Marvell also simultaneously launched a similar product StructeraX2504. The difference from StructeraX2404 is that StructeraX2504 is compatible with DDR5 and does not support the 3DPC mode, and the memory frequency can reach 6400MT/s.
