Tekken 8 was released in January this year and has received good reviews and sales results. However, some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the increasing number of commercial elements in the game. One month after its release, Bandai Namco added a microtransaction system to the game and established a Tekken Store where real money can be used to buy items. Immediately after, in April, it was announced that a Tekken Fighting Pass similar to the Battle Pass in other games would be launched, adding the element of Live Service to the game. The pass includes free and paid tiers.
